Frequently asked questions

DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?

Acupuncture needles are hair-thin and they are inserted gently and shallowly. While each person experiences acupuncture differently, most people feel only a minimal amount of sensation as the needles are inserted. Once the needles are in place, most of our patients tell us that they experience a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing that lasts for many hours after the treatment.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO COME IN FOR ACUPUNCTURE BEFORE I SEE RESULTS?

Most of our patients see us weekly; however, each case is unique. Your practitioner will craft a clear treatment plan for you and will tell you how often you should have treatment. Everyone responds to treatment differently so your results will depend on your particular situation. There are certain issues that can be addressed in a visit or two; other cases, especially chronic conditions, might require more treatments. Consistency is key! Often, patients will notice relief from a specific symptom straight away, though we may need more time to work on the underlying root of the issue.

HOW DO I CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE MY APPOINTMENT?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please log onto the portal to reschedule. You can also call the office number and leave message. We do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, so appointments altered within 24 hours of the scheduled treatment time will result in a fee.

CAN I SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION ONLY?

You can schedule a 15 min free consultation over the phone before booking your Initial Consultation.

IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE?

When a properly trained licensed acupuncturist performs your treatment, there are virtually no negative side-effects, and minimum risk.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

Please drink water and eat some protein within 2 hours. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Complete your new patient paperwork through the online portal.

HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER MY SESSION?

Everyone responds differently to acupuncture, some people may feel relaxed others may feel energized, and some may feel a little sore.

HOW LONG ARE NEEDLES RETAINED?

Acupuncture treatments require the needles be retained between 15 and 40 minutes. During that time some patients nap, listen to music or prefer a guided meditation. During your session other eastern modalities may be administered, for example, moxa/ cupping.

CAN I EXERCISE / WORK AFTER MY ACUPUNCTURE SESSION?

We suggest taking it easy for that day, as things are moving and shifting. You may return to work, but keep in mind you might feel a little sleepy after your treatment.

ARE LABS COVERED BY INSURANCE?

Costs for blood work and specialty tests are not included in your visit. Blood work is usually covered by insurance. Specialty tests range in cost from $100 - $350.

WHAT SPECIALTY LABS DO YOU ORDER?

Some of our most frequently prescribed specialty tests assess allergies, cortisol, genetics, microbiome imbalance, gut health. In-depth specialty testing helps construct a comprehensive picture of your health and better inform our treatment plan.

IS CUPPING COVERED BY INSURANCE?

Cupping has not been covered insurance. It is the patient's responsibility to pay for such service, cupping will be charged as an add-on to your session.
